Here We Are – This Is August Jana’s RedRoom

I must say, the last few months have been amazing and it looks like the month of August is shaping up to be a memorable month for 2016 as well. We have entered a new era at the RedRoom, our first International Juried Show and it looks like it’s a success. The talent on display for August will be in august company, just check out the Artists we’ll be Featuring. August 4th will be Preview Thursday and August 5th is First Friday and also the start of the Olympics in Rio.

August Featured Artists:

Daniel Miller

Daniel Miller – I created this series of oil paintings exclusively for Jana’s RedRoom. I support Jana’s mission of spreading affordable local art and mentoring the up and coming talent in our city. The primary idea behind these 13 images is about “shooting from the hip” so to speak. By this, I mean approaching the creative process with no preconceived notions of direction or any reference material of any kind. Just start painting and see what crawls out of the subconscious. A few times the results were unacceptable and were wiped out and started anew. All in all, this “stream of consciousness” approach was quite enjoyable and somewhat liberating.

Kat Tatz

Kat Tatz – I am really into storytelling in my paintings, not just the narrative that I think about, but also the one that develops as I am painting. There is sort of a feeling of cooperation between me and the painting. It tells me what it wants to be…not the other way around. Kat Tatz is a self made artist living in Las Vegas. First finding her love of art as a young child, she has had a lifetime to perfect her styles and techniques. As such, her range of expertise includes many mediums including: Oils, Acrylics, Color Pencils and Sculpture. Kat works from her studio or on site. You can view her work in businesses and homes across the Las Vegas valley and beyond.

Mannie Rubio

Mannie Rubio – This series is representative of my progressing technical ability in surrealistic oil paintings. All of the work that will be shown is an example of completely unique creativity combined with years of practical study in traditional application of painting as well as color theory and figure studies. In this series I’ve tried to move from my usual canvas painting to more traditional Masonite hardboard, in doing so it is much easier in the attempt to alleviate physical texture by the way of brushstrokes. All this is just part of my journey in becoming more structured and having undeniable skill in traditional old master style painting.

cj walker

Curtis Joe Walker – Photography is the main planet of creative gravity that I orbit around. For the last 5 years, I have been building my business, Photo Bang Bang, as a temple of photography for myself and others to explore creativity in a comfortable environment. spend most of my time focusing on the downtown Las Vegas community and integrating myself into it. The pace of change is dizzying. One skill I have honed in this process is getting the last photo, or the first photo of something as it transitions through change. I love living in Las Vegas because of the opportunities it affords me. I play all generations of gaming systems, and enjoy introducing my daughter to the world of gaming. Retro video games provide me with neccessary mental breaks to relieve stress.

evelyn

Evelyn P Gonzalez Astudillo – “Every time that I look at my paintings I feel something NEW in them that I’ve never seen before. I want to see them on walls of houses with people who appreciate my art. No matter what! Tonight I’m in my studio just staring at my paintings, observing. I need to find the way to share my happy feelings too, not just my fears. A very intense moment, my brain is like a movie, filled with memories. Almost every Saturday night, the only thing I want is to disconnect, enter my world, let out my emotions, and paint. Why spend my Saturday night doing this? Because its what I most love and enjoy in life, Its safe and healthy.” Evelyn uses many mediums to convey her art, oils, acrylics, leather, most anything, she is qualified to dazzle your senses.

vezun

Vezun – Something of an enigma on the local art scene, Vezun’s work makes a bold statement that forces the viewer to take notice. He’s been an active member of the Las Vegas art community and the list of art exhibits he has shown his work in is long and impressive. From street art and large mural installations to small sculptures, Vezun has applied his expertise to many different mediums. In addition to his solo work, he’s frequently collaborated with another well known local Las Vegas artist, KD Matheson who also showed his work here at the RedRoom just last month.

johnny hancen

Johnny Hancen – Well, where do I start? Let’s see, I was concieved in the summer of love and born in the mile high city, grew up out in the sticks of eastern colorado. Made my way riding bulls and bucking horses, even got a scholarship to college for it. I lived in Dodge City, Kansas for a while, decided that I wanted to go to art school, so I joined the army and then went to school up at CSU. I did get kicked outta every honky tonk bar in town, worked construction and selling cars for awhile. Then I moved to Las Vegas and worked as a casino dealer for some time. Then to Hollywood, CA workin in the movies and TV. Right now I’m back in the LV after a few side trips, all the while kickin out as much art as I can.

nate murray

“MUNK” Nate Murray – makes paintings, screen-prints, industrial design pieces, mixed media artwork, and large-scale murals under the moniker MUNK. He currently lives and works in Las Vegas, Nevada, with his three precocious children and his muse. Nate has always been a rebel, since he took his very first steps on a cracked pavement as a small child, he has broken expectations and opposed ideals without the slightest trace of apprehension. Using written and drawn symbols, a nod to his fellow public-space mural artists; he establishes a world where the carefree rules and where rules are invariably eroded. His paintings often refer to pop and mass culture, seeking to highlight the dichotomies between the two forms – and the inherent effect of sensationalist media acquiring consensual acceptance throughout the mainstream. By corroborating the omnipresent lingering of the ‘corporate world’, Nate Murray concentrates on the idea of ‘public space’ and more explicitly on spaces where anyone has the possibility to do literally anything at any given juncture: the exclusive space, the non-privately owned space, spaces that are economically trivial.

Premium Wall Artists:

J Locke Lemert

Jeffrey Locke Lemert – “My art is completely original. I make up these trees as it comes to me. I work with various mediums such as: pen and ink, marker, oil pastel, and acrylic. My surfaces are anything from paper, canvas, glass, wood, walls. I’m always looking for something else to draw on.” He is a self-taught artist with the influence of a father and a grandfather as artists. It was natural for him to pick up a pencil and start sketching at an early age. Since his first drawing he was attracted to the shapes and details and the freedom that any tree represents.

Lorenzo Calderon

Lorenzo Calderon – Lorenzo Calderon is a self taught artist born in San Gabriel, Los Angeles. Lorenzo has come to share his work with collectors and art lovers everywhere. Lorenzo enjoys the journey it takes to create a piece of art that will captivate the viewer. The love he has for creating continues to grow more each day and loves sharing it with others. Lorenzo Calderon is looking forward to spreading his artistic wings and taking the viewer on an amazing ride.

erin l

Erin Lincoln – I was born understanding myself as an artist. As a child I decided that I would find my style, and that I would let art take over my entire life. I finally found that in order to consistently reciprocate feelings into paintings, one must first find a true meaning of self. Expressing the human existence utilizing metaphors became my signature. I use the feelings that I encounter to explain my understanding of our existence. Things aren’t always what they seem; similarly, my work says more if you look for the messages in the subject matter. I expose mine so that others don’t feel so alone in theirs. When people get lost in my art, I know that they are relating.

Jana Lynch of Jana’s RedRoom

kevin and janaI’ve had encounters with many in my years, but Jana Lynch is in a league all her own, living life on her own terms. She has a true love of life, her dreams fully encompass your dreams. It is her passion and her true desire is to see you become successful and happy. When you come into Jana’s space, she makes sure you’re keenly aware of what she believes in her soul. “Celebrity on Deck!”. She gives a shout out, so everyone sees what she sees. If you have ever been out on the town with Jana you know what I am talking about. She gets you involved and makes sure you feel welcome and included. Her purpose is clear, just read her mission statement:

“Jana’s RedRoom is a working art studio and gallery. Our goal is to inspire the next generation of art collectors by offering original works at reasonable prices and, in turn, putting meaningful money into the hands of emerging and established local Las Vegas artists.”jrr group shot
That is exactly what is happening at Jana’s RedRoom. Jana goes the extra mile and wants to spread her positive spirit throughout the Arts District and beyond. She understands that to create your art you must be able to sustain yourself, to thrive, to shine. This concept is not new but most don’t practice this form of showmanship. This is a daily occurence at Jana’s RedRoom. Local and world famous celebrities have been known to drop by The RedRoom. You never know who might drop in. Jana’s own precious Italian Greyhound pups, Sissi Grace and Lady Grace are a big attraction for visitors to The RedRoom. They both anxiously await their next guest/playmate (after all, you are there just to see them, right?). She boasts about who her youngest and oldest artists are, who are her biggest producers and welcomes the first timers. Her husband Kevin is also a believer, he knows there is something here at Jana’s RedRoom and he has faith in her vision.sissi and lady

This is not Jana’s first rodeo and she brings all of her expertise to bare. In her former career as a graphic designer, though successful she increasingly found it to be unfulfilling. At her mother’s urging she decided to switch her focus to fine art. There she found her passion. Along the way she discovered the Las Vegas Arts District and felt she had discovered the place she was always meant to be. She realized that many of the other artists she attended classes with had no place to display their art. She took the initiative to rent wall space at The Arts Factory and opened that opportunity to her fellow art students. Jana and Friends was born. This became so popular that as soon as space became available, she opened her first small gallery space in The Arts Factory. It’s been four years now and she’s never looked back and has since expanded Jana’s RedRoom into the premier gallery space on the lower level of The Arts Factory. With a heart as big as Jana’s, it’s no wonder that Jana’s RedRoom has truly earned it’s reputation as “The Heart of The Arts District.

She will leave no stone unturned, believe that. Jana can spot that next star and she is always dreaming of a new way to promote them, something the rest of us mere mortals can’t possibly fathom. Artist careers have been born right here in Jana’s RedRoom.

I’m proud to be able to help in my meager way. I am totally in awe when the “FLIP DAYS” are over and the gallery is completely transformed on a monthly basis. If you listen to her about how the finances go, you immediately see how much YOU MATTER. Daily ideas are sent up to see where they will fit into the larger picture where Jana is at the helm.

Jana’s RedRoom is home to over 200 local established and emerging Las Vegas artists and many show their art here at the world famous Arts Factory on 107 E. Charleston. Everywhere Jana goes she is always promoting and finding new ways to shine a light on her family of artists. She’s a wiz when it comes to social media and she shares the fun by posting pics and videos to keep us all informed. When you see an announcement of an event Jana is going to attend, she usually invites the world. If you can make it, by all means GO! You never know when it might be the experience of a lifetime with Jana in attendance. It could get wild.

Jana is creating her new WOWTEAM right here, so we can all play a part in your success. We are all volunteers with vision for the future and only see the wide-open possibilities.annie roger jana

Let’s start the festivities with our Featured Artists:

astoria b Astoria Beasley – on display at the entrance of the RedRoom

kat andersonKat Anderson – started painting at a very young age, which was her way of coping with emotions and feelings that she could not understand. Kat realized it to be a way of healing, since she felt better after every drawing. Later, she started to express the impressions you see and feel through abstract art.“The main reason I continue to create art is to hopefully provoke feelings that bring joy to those who see each piece. My belief is that we can heal the world through art or the arts.” Each piece takes a little over a week to create. Kat uses acrylic and mixed media, basically anything she can get her hands on to create with. “If you look within the paintings you can see figures, faces, animals, etc. These are not intentional. They just appear which is so fascinating to me”.

bobby j wysocki Bobby J Wysocki – Vegas Native, always looking for magical people, places and art. “I paint, I write, I paint some more, read enough to keep the mind fresh. Garden, paint, draw and make a huge mess, clean it up, make another mess, painting. I go to First Fridays at The Arts Factory, smile as much as possible, it helps others smile, oh did i mention I paint? Jam at The Arts Factory patio…if you haven’t been down to the Arts District to witness Vegas culture….then you are just a tourist that lives here. A promise: by the end of the summer heat wave I will have most of the pictures “of my art” detailed with description and in story board fashion. cuz there is a story there.” Colors seem to flow from Bobby’s fingertips, images of landscapes, portraits and the iconic, all done it a way that is exclusively Bobby J. Wysocki, from captivating to the whimsical; unique.

roman alexeiRoman Alexei – was encouraged by his educator parents to follow his creative impulses to explore and develop his love of the arts. Roman possesses a deep-seated desire to find new and innovative ways to create original pieces of art through his application of various mediums. His desire, both to depict the lives of individuals on the fringes of society and situations from his own personal experiences, is now at the core of his artistic style.
You will witness this while observing the gracefulness of his application of materials and color. His work is both organic and energetic, a feast for the eyes. Roman Alexei works tirelessly in his own studio space at Opia Contemporary Art Gallery and now is the time to add a beautiful piece to your collection. He will be showing a selection of his amazing body of work right here in Jana’s RedRoom in the iconic Arts Factory.

yvetteYvette LaForce – an Abstract Expressionist, she was born an artist. Painting her way to sleep at night as a child using only her little fingers as brushes. Making her canvas as wide as her arms could reach. She found that painting was much easier for her to do than to communicate verbally. Selling her first painting in high school gave her the knowledge that she could be paid for her works. The most intense and fascinating time in her life, as an artist, was when she was accepted by Knox Martin, to paint directly under him at the Art Students League in New York City. Yvette is now back in her hometown of Las Vegas Nevada. The beautiful place where she was born and raised.

Our Premium Wall Artists:

mandy joyMandy Joy – works in many styles. Modern impressionism is what she enjoys the most and abstract art is also a great outlet for her. Mandy’s realism works will make you take a step back with their beauty and detail. She makes use of an exaggerated perspective in many of her paintings, especially on cars and landscape scenes. She works with high quality materials and enjoys working in bright colors. Every month she has a need to create in all three of these formats. She is always expanding her portfolio and takes commissions. Acrylics are her favorite medium, but she also works with spray paint, pen, colored pencil and in airbrush as well.

m hengeveldMichele Hengeveld – “For me, photography is a freedom to view the world, and create that special moment in time in my own artistic way. To have fun and adventure while creating each intimate image. I enjoy life and everything it has to offer. Why not share it?”
Michele was featured on the Today Show! The segment was “Chasing your Dream Job”. “Everybody knows photography is my dream job! I want and hope to make your photography experience relaxing, fun, and unique. As a photographer, I specialize in Weddings, Engagements, Musicians, Live Shows, Burlesque, Portraiture, Commercial/Head Shots Special Events and Fine Art”. She also is the HOST of Dr. Sketchy’s Las Vegas. Photography has, is and will always be Michele’s love and passion.

loretta degrandisLoretta DeGrandis – has been involved in Las Vegas art scene for some time now. She has degrees in Studio and Visual Arts, also in Psychology. This gives her a perspective we can see in her art. Being a professor of art at CSN, she can translate her feelings to the canvas, in oils, striking a balance. Living things have consciousness, we are all connected through color, shape, form and aesthetic. It is about sharing the oxygen and each creating a certain beauty to enhance mankind and the universe.“I and My Village: The District”, is a painting from a series to celebrate artists that influence her work. Using the artist Marc Chagall’s work where his influence was religion and community. She used cats to create their own village of whimsy and showing their amazing mystery.

maryann fergusen MaryAnn Fergusen – “I grew up in Hawaii where vivid colors were a natural part of my life. Each bright color kindles inside of me a special kind of joy and excitement for living. Orange reminds me of picking guavas with my best friend early in the morning, blue recalls the bliss of bodysurfing at Makapuu Beach, yellow is the hot Hawaiian sun warming me, and so on. My first connection with creating art to express myself was in 4th grade. My teacher was displeased that I created a collage that included, but was not limited to, her guidelines. I was shocked to learn that thinking for myself was not always rewarded. I was not discouraged. The art movement in the 60’s, made me feel right at home and confirmed for me that there was and is a place in this world for my art.” MaryAnn is the Director of Jana’s RedRoom’s own Las Vegas International Juried Art Competition.

Our Deluxe Wall Artists:

These artists can be seen on the walls in the Arts Factory, be sure to check them out.

larry keenanLarry Keenan – “Most people remember playing with crayons at a young age, but it wasn’t until the third grade that I was introduced to a higher level of art; finger paints! My teacher put a piece of paper on my desk and three small bottles of paint. She told me to do whatever I wanted and away I went! That was the best day in school I ever had!  Although color is considered of prime importance in painting, I put more emphasis on values and shapes. I use a lot of paint and multiple layers to create a beautiful balance and harmony within my work. By using large brushes I leave details and subject matter to the viewer’s imagination. Lines and textures are often incorporated in my work, as well as drips, pours and splashes of paint. I am not a purist. I’ll use anything and everything to create a work of art. I like to use several different techniques to provide emotion and action for the viewer. Knowing when to stop is the most difficult part in creating a work of art. Often, I have to ask myself, “Is a painting really ever finished?” I have my doubts; let’s see what you think?”

niki sandsNiki J Sands – “My art is an expression of my life, my thoughts and how the world effects me on a daily basis. I grew up with high admiration for artists and the arts. Life without art would be a blank canvas. Pablo Picasso once said “There are painters who transform the sun to a yellow spot, but there are others with the help of their art and their intelligence who transform a yellow spot into the sun.” Niki J Sands is a self-taught painter who creatively uses her imagination, intelligence and introspection to transform her “spots” of thought and time into intriguing expressions of the worlds around and within us. Niki began her artistic journey as so many incredible artists before her, with a simple love for art in all forms…music, dance, painting and sculpture. “I truly paint from within. My art is inseparably bound up by my personality and soul!”

marci aguilarMarci Aguilar – This will be my first time showing my photography and my lapel pins that I call ‘The Rock Solid Hearts Club’. My photography is a way to bring floral photography into new light with a dreamlike style to it. I’ve always been fascinated with bringing myself to look at the smaller details and extreme colors that nature provides and share it with anyone! –‘The Rock Solid Hearts Club’ is a small geometric heart that’s created with a mold and cement. They are meant for the person to wear with a small secret or thought for themselves but to show and share with anyone who wears one as well. For example, when I wear mine, I’m reminded of my cat who passed away last year..it’s a way to keep her close to me and show with pride my love I had for her.”

kyle okiex copyKyle Okiec – will be showing his photography. “I am a landscape and night photographer. I’ve been photographing for about 8 years. In that time photography has become important to me. It’s the only thing I do really. Besides eat, breathe and listen to music. I work at a camera store and in my spare time, when I have spare time, I make photographs. I photograph in both color and black and white and I don’t limit myself to one medium. My photographs are moody and typically involve darker elements. I’ll be showing brand new work – a small collection of photographs Ive taken over the past couple of years.”

joni doubenmierJoni Doubenmier – born in Spearville, a rural farming community in Southwest Kansas. As a child was always creating something. Joni was especially obsessed with puff paint when it emerged! Yes, puff paint! Always evolving, so did the obsessions; moving from puff paints, to acrylics and oils, to her true voice as an artist, RESIN. Hooked the first time she worked with it, she continues to be mezmerized by the depth and uniqueness of each piece created. Her work is primarily abstract and is the result of her need to paint and create; it is an outlet and her greatest passion. Each piece contains a piece of herself, fueled by a desire to live a fulfilling, positive and happy life. “My wish is to create images that express themselves without the need for words. I am always inspired by the responses and the visions that I receive from those who love my creations as much as I do”.

fekaduFekado Mekasha – will be showing his wonderful metal art. This is a show all by itself, even though there are hundreds of artists displaying their art this month. He is from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and now makes his home here in Fabulous Las Vegas. You have to see these creations, he also does commissions, get into that.

heather gearHeather Herman & Gear Duran are also showing this month at Jana’s. Anyone that knows about art in Las Vegas will know these 2. They have their own styles and also combine them to bring the art world to attention.

We are constantly amazed at the talent in the 18b, the Arts District surely is abundant. On the week before Preview Thursday and First Friday, Jana’s RedRoom changes out the whole gallery. I am there during this time and still can’t fathom that all this art is new and exciting. Come on in and let your mind spin it’s own tale of dreams, every piece has a story and there is something in here you won’t be able to live without.
