“FELINE PLEASURES” BY ARTIST LORETTA DE GRANDIS:
Making art is what has inspired me since I was a child. I have always been interested in how the universe comes together. For the past 22 years I have interpreted in some way different levels of consciousness… in living and nonliving things. (When I mention consciousness — it is being about our existence relative to each other and to the universe). In most of the work presented in this show my story is told through cats: their mystery, whimsy, ego… and then their fascinating existence. It is with vivid color I try to represent the meaning in my art of pleasures, depth and whimsy with a psychological bent of cats conveying their freedom and mystique I have some other work represented in this show that if of a completely different nature – but color, existence and our relation to each other in some way is a part of the underlying story.
In college I studied at the University of California at Irvine receiving scholarships and then powerful instruction in all facets of art from major artists who were professors of that time. After receiving the BA degree in Studio Art I later received a Masters at Pepperdine in Psychology and then an MFA in Visual Art from Union Institute Vermont College in Montpelier. These studies helped me to add psychological mystery to my art and to create video and assemblage in addition to paintings and ceramics. I have won awards since the 70’s in painting, sculpture, photography, and film. From a scholastic national award in High School, to national awards in California and then in Las Vegas. Color is the key to the story in art giving symbolism and power to the message.
ARTIST BIO (SMALL):
Artist Loretta De Grandis loves the whimsy and mystery of cats. She also enjoys the deeper side of consciousness in the universe and all aspects of man’s relation to the universe and the power of how each of us can change the world. It is color that speaks to me. A Graduate of three Universities, Loretta De Grandis is a professor of Art at CSN and a lover of the magic that transcends when creating art. In this show I chose mainly my study of cats, their pleasures, whimsey, mystery and the color they bring to the world around them

The Preview Thursday reception will be on April 4th from 6pm to 9pm and First Friday April 5th from 6pm to 10pm. Normal gallery hours: Tuesday – Thursday 11am to 4pm, Friday – Saturday 4pm to 8pm. All other times, by appointment only.
